Eggplant is a heat-demanding plant and should be grown in a greenhouse or outdoors in a very sheltered location in a warm climate. The fruits are oblong and dark violet. Used for moussaka and other vegetable dishes. Thrives in nutritious and well-drained soil. Water regularly.
Pre-cultivation: 10-12 weeks before planting out at lowest night temperature +10°C. Sow on moistened seed soil and cover with a thin layer of soil. Cover with plastic or place in a mini-greenhouse. Keep the seed moist. Set warm (+22°C). After emergence bright and slightly cooler. Use additional lighting for early sowing. When the plants are big enough to handle, place 1/pot in fertilized soil.
