Wild arugula
Tangy, spicy herb in the mustard family, also known as wild rocket. Tastes great together with milder types of salad, pasta, on sandwiches and pizza. You can make pesto with arugula as an alternative to the traditional basil.
Wild arugula has very spiky leaves and a stronger flavour than cultivated arugula. The young green leaves are harvested regularly. Wild arugula has a longer development time than cultivated and is more heat tolerant. It will continue to produce leaves even if allowed to flower - although they will have a stronger flavour and may become slightly bitter.
Can be grown indoors in a pot all year round, the leaves then have a milder taste.
Place in sun to partial shade in nutrient-rich, loose and porous soil. Does not tolerate standing water.
Pre-cultivation: Feb-May, Jul-Sep or indoors all year round
Direct sowing: Apr-May, Aug-Sep. Water the seedbed before sowing. Keep moist until the seeds germinate.
Harvest: May-Oct, indoors all year round
Spacing: 15-20cm / 1 plant per pocket in a GreenStalk
Sow depth, cm: 0.5-1
Perennial though most often grown as annual when grown in containers. If grown as a perennial and in a GreenStalk, a GreenStalk Original planter is recommended as the tap root will grow long over time.
Location: Sun - partial shade
Number of seeds: approx 400
