Bush bean 'Borlotto rosso'
Bush bean 'Borlotto rosso'
Phaseolus vulgaris
Get both beans (seeds) and pods in vibrant white/red colors. The straight, flat pods are 11-12 cm long and approx. 1.5 cm thick. Forms about 5-6 beans/pod. The beans/seeds can be cooked fresh or can be harvested when the pods have turned yellow, and the seeds are ripe and dry. For the latter the seeds are then further dried indoors for a few days for storage, and prepared later by soaking and subsequent boiling.
Thrives best in a sheltered location in a well-drained, loamy and moisture-retaining soil. Keep well-watered during flowering.
Do not eat beans uncooked.

Direct sowing: Do not sow until soil temp. is 15 °C. Rinse the seeds thoroughly before sowing. Water before sowing and keep moist until germination. Covering with fiber-cloth can keep the birds from getting at them first!
