Cabbage 'January King'

Brassica oleracea var. sabellica

Cabbage `January King` is a kind of mixture of white cabbage, red cabbage and savoy. The outer leaves have a light blistering like a Savoy with a light green to turquoise colour and the inner small head has red tinge green, violet-coated leaves. They are well adapted, withstanding frost and winter rain and remain crisp and crunchy with excellent colour and taste. This allows the plants to be left in the soil and the harvest period extends from autumn to spring.

Pre-cultivation: Feb - mid May. Sow on moistened seed soil. Cover thinly with soil. Keep moist. Set warm (+15°C). After emergence, bright and cooler. When the plants are big enough to handle, place 1/pot in fertilized soil. Harden off the plants before transplanting out.

Direct sowing: Apr - July. Can be sown directly when soil temp. is at least +15°C, but pre-cultivation is recommended.

Successional sowings from April to July give a harvest from October to March.

Protect from pests with net.
