Allium schoenoprasum

Easy to grow, perennial herb. Biggy is a unique variety that gets broad leaves with a very fine aroma and mild onion taste. The leaves are used fresh in salads, for herring, egg dishes, new potatoes etc. They can also be frozen for winter use.

Don't let the plant flower too much, it takes power from other growth. But if you want to allow it to produce a few blooms which are promptly harvested to be enjoyed as decorative scapes for en edible garnish in soups and salads - you're in for a treat! (buds and flowers from onions, garlic and chives are called scapes)

Thrives on loamy calcareous soil, preferably clay soil, but unassuming.
