Lettuce 'Merveille des Quatre Saisons' (Marvel of the four seasons)

Lactuca sativa capitata

Beautiful splash of tasty red-brown color in the salad bowl. Heirloom variety from France 1885. Gets nice, loose heads later in the season. Repeated sowing provides access to fresh lettuce all summer and through autumn as it tolerates both drier weather and cooler temperatures, for a long harvest period extending even into Winter in milder climates. Place in sun to partial shade in moisture-retaining, porous and humus-rich soil.

Pre-cultivation: For earlier harvest, 3-4 weeks before last frost.

Direct sowing: After last frost. Water before sowing and keep moist during germination. Lettuce has difficulty germinating when the heat is too high, no higher than +20C.

Plant spacing: 30cm / 1 plant per GreenStalk pocket for harvest of heads, 2 per pocket, for harvest of outer leaves
