Mentha x piperita L.

Easy-to-grow herb with strongly scented, aromatic leaves. The leaves, fresh or dried, are used for tea, salads, sauces, sweets, drinks, etc. The leaves smell and taste strongly of peppermint oil. Beautiful green leaves and fine purple-pink flower buds give the peppermint a decorative appearance. Unpretentious and thrives on most soils, even lean or clayey.

It spreads quickly and easily - too easily if you don't want it too! If you don't want it to spread in a garden bed be sure to physically limit it's opportunity to spread roots below the soil. Growing peppermint in containers is the perfect solution to this.

Pre-cultivation: April - mid June. Sow sparsely in moist sowing soil. Cover very thinly. Replant in fertilized soil 1 plant/pot. Place in a light and cool place. Plant out after frost.

Direct sowing: May - mid June. Water the seedbed before sowing. Keep the seed moist. Cover the seeds very thinly.

Sow depth, cm: 0,3

Height, cm: 60

Harvest: July - Oct (earlier after year one when grown as perennial)

Spacing: 40 cm / 1 plant per GreenStalk pocket. If growing as a perennial in a GreenStalk, either expect it to take over the entire tier eventually, or dig it up from time to time and reduce the root mass.

Location: Sun
