Helianthus annuus
Bright sunny yellow sunflower, suitable for growing in pots. The variety produces a low plant with fine branching and many early 10 cm flowers. Beautiful in larger pots, in the flowerbed and for cutting. The flowers are decimeter-sized and very suitable for cutting thanks to their long shelf life in a vase. Easy and rewarding to pre-cultivate. Thrives in most soils.
Attracts pollinators.
A sunflower as a cut flower lasts about 5-8 days in a vase if you change the water every day.
Sunflowers thrive in most soils but prefer nutrient-rich and warm soil in sunny growing locations. The seeds are easy to pre-cultivate for early flowering and this is best done in April. They can also be sown directly in the growing area in April-May when the soil has warmed up. Sunflowers germinate at 15-20 degrees. Water and fertilize regularly during the season, especially when growing in a pot as nutrients quickly run out.
Pre-cultivation: Mid-April - May. Fill the pot with 2/3 fertilized potting soil and the rest seed soil. Sow 1-2 seeds/pot in the moistened seed soil and place at 15-18 degrees C. Set at room temp. Keep moist. Save 1 plant/pot, pinch the rest. Set bright and cooler. Water and nourish. Plant out after frost.
Direct sowing: May - June. Water the sowing area before sowing. Keep the seed moist until the seeds germinate.
