Thyme 'German Winter'
Thyme 'German Winter'
Thymus vulgaris L.
Swedish cultivated seed. Easy-to-grow, evergreen spice plant with small, dark green, aromatic leaves. Blooms beautifully in rose-purple and then attracts bees and other insects. Drought resistant. The leaves are used fresh or dried for cooking. Harvest as needed. For drying, whole twigs are picked before the plant flowers. Thrives in porous, preferably lean soil but unassuming.
Pre-cultivation: March-April. Sow sparsely on moistened seed soil. Keep moist. Set lightly at room temp. After emergence, transplant the plants into one-several/pots with sand-mixed soil, place in a bright and cool place.
Direct sowing: Mid April-May. Water the seedbed before sowing. Keep the seed moist.
