Marigold 'Disco Red'
Marigold 'Disco Red'
Tagetes patula
Popular summer flower.
Rich-flowering variety with individual, small, red flowers. Good for flower beds, balcony boxes or pots. Suitable as a group plant. Placed in sun, but also thrives in partial shade. Withstands rain and strong wind. Thrives in well-fertilized soil, but is not particularly demanding.
Tagetes patula is commonly called French marigold (though not originating in France). The petals are edible, and while most prefer the taste of Tagetes tenuifolia (signet marigold) or Tagetes lucida (Mexican marigold) over French - they make a beautiful garnish!
Sow sparsely in moist soil. Let grow at 18°C. The germination time is 7-14 days. Replant 1 plant/pot with fertilized soil when the plants are big enough to handle. Place light and cooler. Plant out after the last frost.
