Calendula officinalis

Flowers just as readily in the garden's wild flower meadow, the kitchen garden or planted in pots and patio boxes. Easy to grow. Blooms from midsummer until the frost comes. Nice cut flower. Self-seeding.

The petals are edible and decorative in salads and drinks. Tip - clip off the white base of the petals if you find them bitter.

Useful in the kitchen garden against aphids - they despise the scent.

Thrives in sun to partial shade in normal garden soil. Not particularly demanding.

Other common names for this calendula are "pot marigold" and "poor man's saffron".
