Lathyrus odoratus L.
A fragrant, low sweet pea with a widespread growth habit in a lovely romantic colour range. Nice in hanging baskets or as a ground cover. The more flowers picked, the more buds the plant sets. New plant site every year, or change soil if grown in containers.
Thrives in nutrient-rich and well-drained soil. Water and feed regularly. For more abundant flowering, cut off wilted flowers later.
Soak the seeds overnight before sowing.
Pre-cultivation: mid April-May, 4-6 weeks before planting out after the last frost. Sow 1-2 seeds/pot in moist seeding soil. Place at room temperature. After emergence, keep in a bright and cool place. Feed regularly 2-3 weeks later. Pinch back when the plants are about 10cm for bushier plants.
Direct sowing: May. Water the seedbed before sowing. Keep the soil moist after sowing until germination has started. Place sunny and protected. Thrives in nutritious, well-drained soil.
