Arugula
Arugula
Eruca sativa
Popular and tasty plant, used in salads and as an ingredient in various dishes. The taste is spicy and slightly peppery. Grown outdoors or in pots on e.g. a balcony. Can be grown in pots indoors all year round, then it will have a milder taste. Repeated sowing provides access to fresh leaves for a long time. Take a break from sowing during high summer when the plants easily go into flower. Harvest young, about 3-5 weeks after sowing. Thrives in a humus-rich, moisture-retaining and well-drained soil. Water regularly. Cover preferably with non-woven fabric.
Direct sowing: Early, as soon as the soil can be cultivated thru mid-June / mid-July to mid-Sept. Water the seedbed before sowing. Keep the soil moist after sowing until germination has started.
