Red Basil 'Rosie'
Red Basil 'Rosie'
Ocimum basilicum var. purpurascens
A decorative red basil that loves heat. Grow basil in a container in a warm and sunny place. The leaves go perfectly with tomatoes and some grated parmesan, and make a tasty red pesto.
Leaves can be used fresh or dried. Can be grown both indoors in the window frame or outdoors in containers.
Thrives best in humus- and nutrient-rich, well-drained soil. Pinch out growing tips for bushier plants. The removed tips can be rooted for more plants.
Harvested basil can be frozen for later use. Place whole leaves in a plastic bag and crush with fingers after the leaves have frozen.
Do not allow the soil to dry out. Do not allow to flower.
Pre-cultivation: Feb-May, for planting out after risk for frost and when temperature is regularly above 15°C. Sow sparsely in moist soil. Set at room temp. Use additional lighting for early sowing. Can be grown all year round indoors.
