Allium fistulosum

Medium-early, high-yielding spring onion heirloom variety. Leaves are lush, dark green, the stem ends with a small ca 10cm oval, pink mild tasting root. Suitable for fresh use and cooking, particularly tasty when grilled.

Resistant to low temperatures and draughts. Grown best in cultivated sandy loam, light sandy loam soil.

Vegetation period is 80 days.

Can be harvested in several different stages and thus provide food for a long time (but go easy on harvesting the green tops if you want a nice bulb later).

In mild climates, late sowings Aug/Sept can be overwintered for early harvest in the Spring.

Pre-cultivation: March-April or August. Sow sparsely in moistened seed soil, set at room temp. After emergence, bright and cool. When plants are large enough to handle, repot to 1 plant/pot with fertilized soil. Plant out after the last frost.

Direct sowing: As soon as the soil can be cultivated Mar-May. Water in the seedbed before sowing. Keep the seed moist until the seeds germinate.
