Origanum majorana

These are aromatic, decorative and woody annual herbs. Fresh or dried stems with leaves are commonly used to flavour food such as pea soup, on pizza and meat sauce. They can also be used to season meat, curd or vegetable dishes. In the same plant family as the herb oregano. Also used for tea and makes a lovely garnish. They are typically grown in beds, balconies or on windowsills.

Harvest leaves as needed, or dry for later use. For drying, whole stems are harvested before the plant flowers and hung upside down to dry. Thrives best in open loamy soil, not too muddy.

Pre-cultivation: Mar-Apr. Sow several seeds/pot. Cover with plastic or place in a mini-greenhouse and keep the seed moist. After emergence, place in a light and cool place. Plant out after frost.
